Dr Joshua Yuen FRANZCO, MBBS (Hons), MPH (distinction), is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon and Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.
Born in Hong Kong, but raised locally in Perth, Dr Yuen is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Having graduated with honours from medical school (UWA) in 2002, he subsequently obtained a Master in Public Health degree with distinction (UWA) prior to his specialist ophthalmology training in Western Australia. He then completed a fellowship in glaucoma surgery at the world renowned Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (UK).
During his glaucoma fellowship, Dr Yuen treated patients with the most severe glaucoma using cutting edge techniques including: selective laser trabeculoplasty, trabeculectomy using the Moorfields safe surgery system, glaucoma tube-shunt surgery, as well as some of the latest minimally-invasive-glaucoma-surgery techniques such as trabecular micro-bypass stent implantation and endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation. Apart from glaucoma, he also specialises in the treatment of cataract and pterygium.
Dr Yuen has also held a public hospital appointment at the Fremantle Hospital as a glaucoma consultant and has written a number of peer-reviewed journal articles. He regularly gives lectures to training doctors and optometrists and has presented at several major Ophthalmology conferences.
