Ocular Biometry

At Northern Eye Surgeons, we use the state of the art IOLMaster 500 for all of our patients and also perform corneal topography and autorefraction as part of your ocular biometry testing.

What is ocular biometry?

Ocular biometry literally means measuring the eye. These measurements include the length of the eye and the curvature of the cornea, as well as several other important measurments.

Why may I need biometry?

Biometry is usually performed prior to cataract surgery. In cataract surgery, we remove the crystalline lens inside your eye (the cataract), and replace it with a prosthetic lens. The biometry measurements are used in predictive modelling to determine the strength of the new prosthetic lens.
